Men in sport, we see a lot of them. Their achievements (and I’m not saying they’re not deserved) are praised and celebrated.

But what about the women? What about non-binary people? And what about at the grassroots level? How are young kids supposed to see where they belong in sports if they don’t see themselves represented?

The discussion around representation often feels negative. And I didn’t like that. So, I chose to make something positive instead, a project that shines a light on these underrepresented groups.

Did it change the world? No.

And no, I didn’t represent every minority group. I was limited by time and location.

But it was a small step in a better direction. And it was fun: meeting, chatting with, and photographing people I might never have crossed paths with otherwise.

P.S. For the photography nerds out there, I used a Bronica SQ medium format camera to capture the shots.
